This is the home site for the National Writing Project and will direct you to state-by-state sites and the contact information for each site. Additionally, it provides up-to-date information about the teaching of writing as well as resources that can assist classroom teachers.

This site is part of the NWP home site and provides 30 teacher-tested ideas for helping students improve their writing. Each of the 30 topics is accompanied by a succinct lesson idea for addressing the specific issue.

The English Department at Purdue University maintains this site that is loaded with ideas and resources for both teachers and students in grades 7-12. Along with their monthly topic, the site includes information on writing process, grammar, technical writing, citations and more.

Maintained by the Northern Nevada Writing Project, this site provides some lesson ideas, texts, and great ideas for teaching writing.

Barry Lane is a terrific writer and presenter. If you’re not familiar with his work, I encourage you to read some of his books. This link from his home page provides approximately 15 lesson ideas and lesson has modifications to meet the needs of various grade levels.

For those days when you just need help, this site offers a wide variety of printable forms of writing prompts, lessons, and resources.

This site is maintained by the National Council of Teachers of English and provides a current listing of articles, publications, and positions about the teaching of writing.

Developed by a classroom teacher in Arlington, MA, the site lists numerous other websites, most which address 6 Trait writing. The links include lesson ideas, literature, explanations of the traits and a host of other information.
